Using Data to Inform Talent Strategies and Address Global Workforce Challenges: IBM, Intel and retrain.ai Share Insights

When everyone has access to data and analytics, innovation can come from anywhere and go everywhere. In the current era of data abundance, what is the best way for enterprises to harness data innovations to take their business to the next level?

This was the question the Cloudera’s Evolve 2022 event in New York City set out to answer.

An insightful mix of industry innovators, analytics experts, and data leaders spoke on topics ranging from managing data at scale, to modernizing architecture, to advancing analytics with machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI).

retrain.ai’s VP of Marketing, Amy DeCicco, presented alongside Madison West from the Global Corporate Responsibility Office at Intel and Hemanth Manda, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships for IBM Data & AI. The session was moderated by Aman Kidwai, HR Strategy reporter for Morning Brew.

The topic, “Using Data to Inform Talent Strategies and Address Global Workforce Challenges,” focused on how companies can use data and technology to guide long-term talent strategies, address the widespread skills gap nearly every industry is experiencing, ensure equitable access to stable career pathways and achieve business objectives.

Their lively conversation covered several key areas, including:

  • Building a skills architecture as the first step to operationalizing a data-based approach to talent
  • Using AI to identify the right talent, their skills and skills gaps
  • Solving strategy challenges–pay gap, governance–through data
  • Investing in diverse talent and pipeline development with analytics

The conclusion?  People are your greatest asset, using technology, well-designed processes and holding an organization accountable for unbiased hiring and talent management is a key to the future success of any business.

“Particularly when it comes to digital transformation and the in-demand skills that come with that shift, looking beyond titles and degrees to find the in-demand capabilities of a candidate is critical for HR leaders looking to bring in the right talent for open roles,” says retrain.ai Co-founder and CEO Dr. Shay David. “At retrain.ai we’re building technology to source and screen best-fit candidates at scale, backed by billions of labor-related data points from the most robust and granular skills taxonomy in the market. We empower organizations to hone in on best-fit candidates quickly, doubling their speed to hire.”

“In the United States alone, companies spend $180 billion annually on corporate training. But only about 12 percent of the skills learned through training initiatives are used on the job,” adds retrain.ai Co-founder and COO Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf. “We’re connecting the skills requirements in today’s market with the skills employees need for their current role in addition to upskilling opportunities needed to better equip them for future growth.”

Emerge’s Top 50 list for 2022 showcases innovative companies who help organizations support existing employees move “from A to B” by leveraging assessment as a starting point, along with training and mentoring. The list is based on public and private data and is crowdsourced and voted on by the firm’s Workforce Development Board.

retrain.ai’s place on the Top 50 list adds to a streak of industry recognition for the company. In the last year, retrain.ai has been named the Most Promising HR Tech Solution Provider by CIOReview, a Most Admired Company to Watch in 2022 by Business Talk Magazine, and Best AI-Enhanced Workforce Transformation Solutions Provider North America by Corporate Vision. What’s In It for Me? The Importance of Personalized Employee Development at Scale

Recent surveys have shown that of workers who quit their jobs over the last two years, fueling the great resignation, a majority name lack of opportunity for advancement as a contributing factor. Yet plenty of employers offer training programs to upskill and develop their talent. Where is the disconnect?

In a recent interview, our COO Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf sat down with retrain.ai customer Maccabi Healthcare Services to talk about our work together.

In this clip, Maccabi Head of Learning and Development Ifat Alfasi describes the importance of not just putting programs in place, but of making them easily accessible–and curated–to employees. In this way, individuals can see the potential inherent in the training and have personalized guidance on how to best benefit from it.

More Than Money: Why Successful L&D Programs Require Real-Time Market Data

In the United States, annual spend on corporate training averages $180 million. But research shows that only 12% of skills learned in those training programs are used on the job. As the skills gap continues to widen within the US workforce, how can enterprises better use learning and development budgets to help employees develop relevant, immediately beneficial skills?

In a recent interview, our COO Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf sat down with retrain.ai customer Maccabi Healthcare Services to talk about our work together.

In this clip, Isabelle, along with Maccabi Organizational Development Manager Yael Rotem-Sher and Head of Learning and Development Ifat Alfasi, points out the need to move beyond merely budgeting for L&D; organizations need to connect the dots between current labor market trends and in-demand skills of the future in order to develop employees successfully.

The HR Conundrum: Plenty of Data, But What Does It Tell me?

HCM Systems are traditionally data-rich, but information poor. This can be exacerbated by siloed systems that don’t work in concert with each other to provide HR leaders with a full, comprehensive view they need to strategize successfully. How can HR professionals–with more responsibility falling within their domain than ever before–structure voluminous data in a way that supports business goals?

In a recent interview, our COO Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf sat down with retrain.ai customer Maccabi Healthcare Services to talk about our work together.

Responsible AI: Why It Matters and What HR Leaders Need to Know

Today’s HR leaders are tasked with not only hiring the right candidates quickly but doing so in a way that identifies the right skills needed to add to a diverse workforce.

AI-enabled Talent Intelligence is the engine to power such an effort at scale, but only through the use of Responsible AI can such a system ensure fairness within the hiring process. Without Responsible AI, unintended biases can seep into machine learning models, derailing DEI efforts.

Our co-founder and COO Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf recently spoke on this topic for HR Tech Live: North America, a free interactive online event sponsored by HR Exchange. If you weren’t able to attend, good news; you can check out the recording below.

HR Exchange2022: Why Does Responsible AI Matters and What HR Leaders Need to Know

UPDATE: Local Law 144 will now go into effect on April 15, 2023. Learn more about the change here.

HR technology is becoming increasingly regulated. A new law taking effect in New York City on January 1,  2023 will require companies using AI-driven employment decision systems to submit to bias audits; companies may be fined for refusal to comply. And NY is just the first–similar regulations are already being considered in California and Illinois.

With the great resignation and war for talent continuing to accelerate, HR leaders can’t afford to lose traction in their hiring and workforce efforts due to back-fitting compliant tech systems.

Understanding the components of responsible AI–explainability, fairness algorithms, unintended bias detection–and what to look for in a compliant solution now can mitigate that risk and continue reinforcing DEI efforts.

That’s why we’re joining HR Tech North America Live. In our session, retrain.ai co-founder Isabelle Bichler-Eliasaf will discuss what constitutes Responsible AI, how to identify if your technology solutions are at risk, and how retrain.ai is building a Responsible AI Talent Intelligence System.
